This dedicated retail space was created with our wonderful community of pet lovers in mind, serving as a one-stop shop for exclusive gear, treats, and accessories. When you visit the Pet Corner, you’ll find an incredible selection of unique items that you can only get right here from us, including:

Thrift Store Employee Spotlight: Ms. Vicki Dyer

We are thrilled to spotlight Ms. Vicki Dyer, who just celebrated her three-year anniversary with our organization! Ms. Vicki started out as a cashier and has worked her way up to become our upstairs supervisor in the thrift store. She is the friendly face you see whenever you are browsing the upstairs portion of the store. We are so thankful to have her on our team and hope we have her for many more years to come!

Adoption Center Employee Spotlight: Jenna Hill

Our adoption center spotlight shines on Jenna Hill, our second longest-standing employee at the adoption center! Coming in at almost 10 years of service, Jenna started out as a young kennel assistant and has grown into our trusted kennel supervisor and all-around "know-it-all" for the adoption center. Her dedication, deep knowledge, and commitment to our animals make her an invaluable part of the Mountain Shelter family.

Holiday Pet Safety Warning: Keep Chocolate Away From Pets!

With Halloween coming in the month of October and Christmas not too far behind, we always want to remind everyone how dangerous it is to eat and feed chocolate to our furry friends. Chocolate contains substances (theobromine and caffeine) that pets cannot metabolize, which can lead to serious health complications or medical emergencies. As trick-or-treat candy and holiday treats enter the home, please keep all sweets securely out of reach of curious noses. Emergency Advice: If your dog or cat gets into chocolate, please call your vet immediately for instructions on what to do.

Halloween Fun

Here at the adoption center, the staff and furry friends all love Halloween! If you and your fur baby love it as much as we do, please send us pictures through Facebook or email of your baby and their costume. Even better, swing by the adoption center so we can see them in person and take our own pictures! We can't wait to see all of your creative, adorable, and spooky pet costumes this season!

Spotlight Animals

Senior Girl Gerdy

When Gerdy first arrived at our shelter, she was in terrible shape—suffering from severe skin, eye, and ear infections, and severely malnourished. Thanks to the dedicated care of our medical team and staff, Gerdy is now thriving and completely healed from all her infections! She is feeling wonderful, glowing with health, and would love to find her forever family to spend her golden years with.

Meet Sammy!

We'd also like to introduce you to Sammy, a charming cat looking for a special forever home. Although Sammy only has 3 legs, he doesn't let that slow him down for a second—he is absolutely full of life, energy, and affection! Sammy has also tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV), but despite all of that, he can still live a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life in an indoor home (either as an only cat or with other FeLV-positive feline friends). Sammy is ready to shower his future family with endless love!

Pet Food Pantry Needs

We can always use cat and dog food donations for our food pantry! Beyond feeding the animals residing at our shelter, our food pantry helps out quite a few local families in need and supports a local animal sanctuary with food on a monthly basis. If you would like to help keep belly bowls full across our community, donations of unopened dry or canned dog and cat food can be dropped off at either our Adoption Center or Thrift Store during normal business hours.

Upcoming October Events

October 3 - Downtown Family Glow Night:

We will have adoptable dogs walking through the downtown area with their glow necklace on. Please say Hi!

October 31 – Spooktacular Adoption Special:

Reduced adoption fees on select adult dogs and cats all day long to help our animals find loving homes for the holidays.

Volunteer & Support Opportunities

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Mountain Shelter Humane Society relies on the generosity and dedication of our community. Here are a few meaningful ways you can help us this month:

1. Donate Supplies & Food: Drop off dry/canned cat or dog food for our food pantry, or donate cleaning supplies and bath towels.

2. Volunteer at the Thrift Store: We are looking for volunteers to assist with sorting donations and staffing the new Pet Corner!

3. Become a Foster Parent: Provide temporary love and shelter for kittens, puppies, or pets recovering from medical treatments.
