ABOUT MOUNTAIN SHELTER
The Story Behind Our Mission
Our Mission
The Mountain Shelter is dedicated to protecting, healing, and rehoming animals in need. We provide compassionate care, promote responsible pet ownership, and strengthen our community through education, outreach, and lifesaving support. Every animal we serve is given safety, dignity, and a chance at a better life.
Our Story
In 1986, the Mountain Shelter was born from a simple truth the founders could no longer ignore—the community needed a safe haven for the dogs and cats who had been forgotten, abandoned, or left to fend for themselves. Strays wandered the streets, litters appeared in fields, under porches, alleyways, and too many animals faced hardship with nowhere to turn. Fueled by a deep passion to rescue, heal, and rehome these vulnerable animals, a small group of dedicated community members came together to create a place where every life mattered. What began as a humble effort quickly grew into a trusted refuge, built on compassion, determination, and the belief that every dog and cat deserves a chance at a better life.
Over the years, the Mountain Shelter has become a cornerstone of hope in the region— a place where injured animals receive medical care, frightened strays find comfort, and abandoned pets discover that love is still waiting for them. Through tireless work, countless rescues, and the unwavering support of the community, the shelter continues to honor its founding mission: to protect the vulnerable, restore their health, and help them find the families they were always meant to have.
Today, the Mountain Shelter stands as a testament to what compassion can build. From 1986 to now, one thing has never changed—the commitment to giving every animal a second chance and every adopter a new beginning.
